What is a Freshwater Biome?

Well, first off, a biome is a complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under climate conditions of the regions. Thank you, Dictionary.com

Freshwater is a type of underwater community where certain organism live. A freshwater biome is a complex. But, you will learn how all this comes to play in the website. Thanks.

Symbiotic Relationships:

Fungi and Algae: Work together to from lichens, which is a form of mutualism. Oysters cling to tree roots to give the oyster a safe home, which is a form of parasitism

Abiotic factors:

Some abiotic, or nonliving, factors in a freshwater ecosystem include sunlight, nutrients, oxygen, the level of pH in the water, and temperature.

Biotic factors:

Some biotic, or living, factors in a freshwater ecosystem include minnows, bass. catfish, algae, insects, snails, and grass

Destiny dependent limiting factors:

Density dependent limiting factors are environmental factors that depend on the population such as food, water, and space.

Destiny independent limiting factors:

Density independent limiting factors are factors in the environment that the population depends on, such as natural disasters, weather, and random occurrences.

Producers:

Producers in the freshwater ecosystem include cattails, algae, cyanoplakton, mangrove trees, duckweed, water hycainth, elodas, water lilies, and other plants and bacteria

Consumers:

Some consumers in the freshwater ecosystem include ducks, snails, clams, river muskrat, alligator, otter, water snake, piranha, catfish, and crocodile

Example Below

Keystone Species:

The definition to the keystone species is a plant or animal that plays a crucial role in an ecosystem. For example, a sea otter. Sea otters eat urchins, which keeps the population of urchins down and protecting the ecosystem. There's also the sea star, who also eats urchins.

Predator- Prey Relationships:

Goliath bird eating spider- eats insects and birds

Anaconda- eats fish , birds, reptiles, and small animals

Predation-

An example of predation is a herron eating a fish.

Predation affects the population in a good and bad way. It can steady a population if there begins an increase of the species or it can lower the population which might lead to distinction or a very slow rate of the species its self repopulating.

An example of an endangered species is a Trichechus or otherwise known as a manatee. Manatees are endangered because of us humans taking over there land and also our boat propellers which injure their flippers, and amputating their tails.

Between insects, algae, mammals, and fish, there are over 80,000 to 90,000 species that are endangered because of what we are doing with their natural environment.

Pyramid: Biomass:

Succession:

Primary Succession- In open freshwater, such as a lake or pond, the water is too deep for plants to take root. The most common succession is a hydrosere. This is a succession that begins in water. It is a process of which a freshwater ecosystem turns into a woodland.

Secondary Succession- If the succession is halted before it reaches a climax community, secondary succession occurs. Fires, pollution, human interruption, diseases, and climate change can all cause secondary succession do occur. Secondary succession may also alter the final climax community. Rooted plants increase the sedimentation, and nutrients that are available. They change the micro- environment allowing, allowing reeds , fen, car, and oak to increase their tolerance of the thickening and dying of soil.

Human impact on the biome is explained:

Freshwater ecosystems are essential for human survival, providing most of the peoples drinking water. The ecosystems are home to more than forty percent of the worlds fish species. Despite their value and importance, many lakes, rivers, and wetlands around the word are being severely damaged by human activities and are declining at a much faster rate than terrestrial eco systems.

More than twenty percent of the ten thousand known freshwater fish species have become extinct imperiled in recent decades. Watersheds, which catch precipitation and changed it to streams and lakes, are highly vulnerable to population. Programs to detect freshwater habitats include planning, education, stewardship, regulation.

Threats include oration of dams that block migration routes for fish and disrupts habitats, water withdrawal for human use, runoffs from agricultural and urban areas, global warming, invasion of exotic species, and overpopulation. How can we find solutions? Restrict the construction of dams, provide incentives for farming business to reduce the use of pesticides, establish protected wetlands areas, and regulate water withdrawal for human use.

Prediction for the future:

The prediction of the future for the freshwater biome is pretty simple. If we continue to be selfish and destroy freshwater biomes for our own territory then many species will die out which might lead to distinction of the species who once lived there and to the ones who relied on a specific species for a source of food. Since humans are the ones who are most destructive to the freshwater biome, we should be the ones to clean up the mess we've made so far on the species and the biome itself.

5. An abiotic factor of the freshwater biome?

5. Sunlight

The freshwater biome is a biome that is filled with life, whether it's producers such as cattails, water lilies, or algae, they all have a mindful purpose to the place in which they live. Basically in order for the biome to keep growing, humans will have to take sacrifices to keep the freshwater biomes clean and healthy for the organisms that live in it, or else many creatures will be left to distinction. We've learned that biotic or abiotic factors, and independent and dependent limiting factors are a very cherished thing to the freshwater biome and basically any biome at all. Like we said before many of the major causes of destruction for the biome occurs because of human influences towards it. With our population growing, we're running out of places to live which leads to overrunning a biome, in this case a freshwater biome, and polluting, or destroying the land which may lead the biome to take years of recovery or it may never recover at all, which casues thousands and thousands of organisms to distinction.
